SLOVAKIA - Dunajec River Rafting
Dunajec river rafting from
Czerwony Klasztor to Leśnica
price: 65 PLN
The Pieniny Mountains constitute a part of crag range situated on the borderline of interior and exterior Carpathian Mountains. Their extremely complicated geological structure generated the creation of attractive shape of rock walls, small towers and crags of various shapes which, along with the gorge of Dunajec river, clearly dominate over the neighbouring landscape.
One of the greatest attractions within the area of the Slovak Pieniny Mountains is the Dunajec river rafting on typically highlander rafts. The sailing route amounts to 10 km of the Dunajec river flowing along the Polish-Slovak border. The most beautiful section of the route is along the charming Gorge of Dunajec from Czerwony Klasztor to Leśnica. The rafting lasts c.a.1.5 hour.
Leśnica - a village in the valley of Leśny Potok. The oldest written mention about it comes from 1297. It was founded by Gorgey family from Toporzec during village representative settlement within the area called Stara Leśnica until present. In the 15th century there was also another village near Stara Leśnica - Nowa Leśnica, which testifies to the fact of fast grow of the village. In the 16th century the landowners sold the village to the monks of Czerwony Klasztor (Red Monastery). In the 19th century the town was often visited by resort guests walking between the towns of Smerdzonka (Czerwony Klasztor) and Szczawnica.
Between 1938-1939 the town belonged to Poland. In the village there is a Roman Catholic 17th century church constructed on Gothic foundations, terraced houses with entrance gates and thick wooden log cottages. A lot of tales concerning the Pieniny have been preserved, and in the village traditional highlander costumes with few ornaments are sometimes worn. Between 1938-1939 the town belonged to Poland.
