Tapolca is a resort part of Miskolc. The town is situated in the Northern part of the country, at the foot of the Bükk Mountains. Particular attention should be devoted to over 300 caverns in this part of Hungary!

Within the area of the baths there is the only European thermal bath in a cavern - Burlang furdo. It is filled with warm water which spurs with such power in places, that natural power showers are created. Radioactive waters of the spa contain iodine, bromine and potassium, and they are a perfect cure for rheumatism, recommended in the following diseases:
- blood circulation malfunction,
- neuroses,
- cardiac neuroses,
- hypertension,
- physical and mental fatigue,
- respiratory system diseases,
- digestive system and gastric diseases.

The best known dish is porkölt and its stew variations. Porkölt is fried pieces of meat stewed in very thick delicious sauce with pepper. It is similar to our goulash served with groats or potatoes. Other typical Hungarian dishes we recommend, are, for instance:

• borjúpaprikás - veal porkölt, often served with noodles
• rántott sajt - fried cheese
• gombapörkölt - mushroom goulash
• ecsó - lecsó
• túrós táska - sweet roll with cheese stuffing
• gesztenye puree - sweet chestnut purée with whipped cream.

After a good meal you can by no means resist the temptation to drink some original Hungarian wine. The best known is, certainly, Tokaji. Pálinka is the national alcohol, a double distilled vodka produced from fruit mash. The most popular and well worth tasting are peas and apricot vodka.
